Dooky Chase's Restaurant
Overview
Dooky Chase's Restaurant, established in 1941, is more than just a restaurant—it's a cultural landmark. Under the leadership of the late Chef Leah Chase, known as the 'Queen of Creole Cuisine,' the restaurant became a meeting place for civil rights leaders in the 1960s. Luminaries from Ray Charles to Barack Obama have dined here. Chef Chase, who continued cooking well into her 90s until her passing in 2019, transformed the restaurant into a gallery for African American art while serving traditional Creole dishes that have influenced New Orleans cuisine for generations.
