Pat's King of Steaks

Pat's King of Steaks

Philadelphia, PA, USA

Overview

Founded in 1930 by Pat Olivieri, Pat's King of Steaks is credited with inventing the original Philadelphia cheesesteak. What began as a hot dog stand evolved when Pat decided to grill some beef and put it on an Italian roll. A passing cab driver was attracted by the aroma and convinced Pat to sell him the sandwich. Word spread rapidly, and Pat's has been a Philadelphia institution ever since, operating 24 hours a day. The establishment gained national recognition through numerous television appearances and remains a must-visit destination for tourists and locals alike.
