Wilensky's Light Lunch

Wilensky's Light Lunch

Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Overview

A Mile End institution since 1932, Wilensky's Light Lunch remains virtually unchanged since its founding by Moe Wilensky. This tiny, no-frills lunch counter is famous for its signature sandwich, 'The Special,' and strict house rules that have been maintained for generations: no tipping, no cutting the sandwich in half, and mustard is mandatory. Featured in Mordecai Richler's novel 'The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz' and later in the film adaptation, Wilensky's represents a piece of Montreal's cultural and culinary history. Now run by the third generation of the Wilensky family, the shop maintains its vintage charm with original soda fountain equipment and counter seating for just a handful of customers.
