Himalaya Restaurant
Overview
Himalaya Restaurant, opened in 2004 by Chef Kaiser Lashkari and his wife Azra Babar Lashkari, has evolved from a modest strip mall eatery to one of Houston's most celebrated culinary destinations. Located in the heart of Houston's Mahatma Gandhi District (also known as Little India), Himalaya serves Pakistani and Indian cuisine that has garnered national attention, including features on Anthony Bourdain's 'Parts Unknown' and David Chang's 'Ugly Delicious.' Chef Lashkari, who holds a degree in hotel management from Pakistan and studied at the Conrad Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management, is known for his bold flavors and willingness to create fusion dishes that incorporate Texas influences, such as his famous smoked brisket masala. Despite its humble setting, Himalaya attracts diners from across the city and country seeking authentic South Asian flavors.
